Ryan Hong has moved from pushing carts to answering tech questions, and he encourages others to keep moving forward.
“I'm very passionate about my team, my job and just being able to help associates use
the new apps that we're rolling out,” Ryan Hong says.
At the 2023 Associates Week, he got a chance to answer questions in person at a Workplace Help Desk. “Getting to see associates and show them that we're here to help them was great!”
Ryan started at Sam’s Club as a cashier and cart pusher at age 18. He earned a computer information systems degree through Live Better U. In 2015, he transitioned over to a field support role in the Walmart Home Office, where he now serves as an engineer.
His career has taught him an important lesson: Never give up. No matter how hard a transition feels, keep moving forward.
As an example, Ryan recalls his move to the Home Office: Six months into his new role he approached his manager and said he didn’t think he was cut out for the job.
“He told me to hang on just a little bit longer. About two months later, I was doing just fine,” Ryan says. “Keep pushing the gas pedal down, keep wanting to learn, and be eager.”
