Like many associates, Chris’ return to Walmart began with one opportunity.
The summer of 1999 was hot, humid and sunny. Chris Bobbitt remembers it well: He had been hired to push carts outside of Walmart Store 100 in Bentonville, Arkansas, a job that set him on the path to buying his first car. And, in some ways, to becoming Walmart and Sam’s Club Radio’s newest on-air personality.
“I got a beautiful tan that summer,” Chris recalls with a smile.
It’s important to know that Chris smiles a lot. He appreciates making people laugh, and he says he’s looking forward to bringing joy to associates every time he gets behind the microphone.
“I get to do something that I love.”
“My career in radio started 16 years ago,” Chris explains. “I started in terrestrial radio on ‘Three B Radio,’ and we owned that show. We all gave ourselves titles, and I served as Maximum President.”
From there, Chris went on to work in television news for eight years, where he produced every show in every timeslot—and developed a journalistic flair for telling stories. It’s that same flair he looks forward to bringing to stores, clubs and DCs around the country.
“I’m getting the chance to get back on air, talk to associates and really lift spirits,” Chris says. “I get to do something that I love, and I get to make people happy as I shine a light on associates doing a really good job, being proud of their coworkers. I am so excited for the future here.”
“I’m so excited to talk to associates!”
As that future unfolds, Chris has some advice for Walmart and Sam's Club associates around the country who want to get to know him better in his new role: He can talk about anything.
From his 6-year-old daughter Edie to a sweeping knowledge of musical artists who range from Doja Cat to The Avett Brothers to Meshuggah, Chris Bobbitt just wants to be buddies.
“I’m so excited to talk to associates! How is your day going? How are you in life? Is there anything I can do to make you laugh? Do you need a hug, a high-five, a pat on the back?” Chris asks. “Anything I can do to uplift anyone—that’s a good practice to have.”
