Meet the award-winning superstars of highway safety.
“At Walmart, safety is our No. 1 value,” says Jason Ahten, director of fleet compliance. “It’s not just a priority, because priorities can change. It’s a value.”
That value was front and center in early April 2023 at the American Trucking Associations (ATA) Safety, Security & Human Resources National Conference, where Walmart won two first-place awards:
- First Place in the National Industrial Safety category for employers with over 1,000 employees
- First Place Fleet Safety Award in the General Commodities Truckload/Line-haul Division for companies with over 250 million miles per year, based on the lowest number of accidents per miles driven
“It’s a huge recognition for our drivers who are out on the road doing the right thing second after second, minute after minute throughout their entire careers,” shares Steve Scannell, regional safety manager, who celebrates 25 years with Walmart this month. “The award reflects the work of technicians, support staff, operations folks, HR and the home office group. It's a true team effort.”
To celebrate this safety win, we’ve gathered supply chain articles that come from all corners of that team.
